Beachwear or swimwear can be a bit of a minefield when it comes to styling. Getting the right bikini for your skin tone or the shape of your body can be tricky and when it comes to choosing a one-piece swimming suit, it’s difficult to find one that flatters anyone. But women aren’t the only ones that can struggle to get it right in this area.
Guys can also struggle to get it right when it comes to disrobing and showing off their beach bods. Body-clinging swimming briefs have become almost legendary as an unfashionable item, but are ideal for lane swimming as they don’t drag you down when soaked, like shorts do. Trunks are good for this reason and cover the thighs slightly, which makes all the difference on some builds (and leaves more to the imagination than briefs).
Of course, if a man is particularly fit and athletic then he can more or less get away with wearing either, however those with longer legs and a lankier appearance should perhaps stay away and go for a more loose-fitting short instead.
High leg cut and low waist band are the order of the day for shorter men – long board shorts don’t look right on little legs. Garish, neon or multi-coloured shorts, on the other hand, don’t look good on anyone. Patterned shorts are fine, but the colours and shades should be increasingly subtle as the pattern is intricate – bright, block colours are ok, as long as they’re not competing for space with loads of other colours.
At Very.co.uk, you can find all different kinds of men’s swimwear – from classic Speedo briefs to long board shorts. As the contrast between the Team GB briefs (released in anticipation of the Olympic games this year) and Goodsouls’ retro-designed board shorts shows, there’s a huge amount of variation in the collection of swimwear for men at Very, so take time to browse and consider what will help him turn heads for the right reasons when he’s strutting his stuff on the beach this summer!
